Beauty and health secrets to detox your body
Detoxing has become extremely popular in recent years and there is little doubt that our bodies could do with helping hand to help rid itself of some of the harmful toxins than can build up in the body, but some of the detox diets that you read about are pretty extreme and, in some cases, even dangerous.
The fact is that your body is designed to detox itself, but it can become overloaded with all the toxins that are in our food, in the air that we breathe, and in some of the things that we sometimes overindulged in, like alcohol and fast food. If you want to help your body detox, but you don’t want to live off lemon water for week, here are ten simple health secrets that will help detox your body.
1. Cut out all the toxins that you are consuming
To give your body a fighting chance of getting rid of toxins, you can help it by not giving it even more to deal with through what you eat and drink. Of course, if you smoke, you should give that up anyway, and it will be adding your body’s toxic overload. Also, cut out, or cut down, your consumption of alcohol too, because they both dehydrate your body, which make it harder for toxins to be flushed out of your system.
2. Drink lots of water
Toxins are naturally filtered out your body by your liver and then they are expelled along with your urine. Drink more water every day and that will help that process of detoxification. It will also improve your digestive system, which is another route through which toxins are expelled from your body. Ideally, you should be drinking at least eight glasses of water a day.
3. Cut out fast food and processed food
If you are going to try to detox your body, then the best foods to eat are natural, raw foods, like fresh fruit and vegetables. What you certainly do not want to eat are heavily processed foods and fast foods, which are full of fat, salt, sugar, and artificial additives.
4. Eat plenty of fibre
The combination of water and fibre is the perfect way to flush toxins from your system, so eat plenty of whole grain foods, fruit and vegetables. Fibre and water combine in the gut to produce a gel that binds toxins to it, which are then expelled in the usual fashion. If you are constipated, however, those toxins just sit in the gut for longer and do more damage.
5. Get lots of exercise
When you exercise, you sweat, and that will flush more toxins from your body. Exercise also gets your heart beating faster and your blood pumping around your body, all of which gets the toxins out of your system faster. Toxins can also accumulate in the fat that stored in your body so, if you lose weight through exercise, you will also lose toxins.
6. Start every day with a glass of warm water and lemon
Lemon water is often suggested as being a good way to detox the body, but you do need to drink it warm, because a cold drink will actually slow down your digestive system. A glass of warm lemon water, though, is a great way to start your detox day. Lemons are full of vitamin C and potassium, which will boost your immune system, and it also stimulates the liver and helps flush toxins out of the body.
7. Eat detox vegetables
There are certain fruits and vegetables that are known to stimulate the liver and aid the detox process. The detoxing vegetables include broccoli, cauliflower, onions and artichokes and, for the fruit, eat more grapefruit, apples, pineapple, and nectarines.
8. Take detox baths
Another way to speed up the detox process is to take hot detox baths that will help sweat the toxins out of your body. One of the most popular ways to detox in the bath is to use ginger. All you need to do is to add half a cup of grated fresh ginger to a hot bath and soak yourself in it for half an hour. Be warned though, it will cause you to sweat profusely, and the effects could last for up to an hour after you get out of the bath.
9. Drink green smoothies
Green smoothies are another popular way to detox. Some people do embark on a complete green smoothie detox and eat nothing but smoothies for ten days, or you could just use green smoothies to replace one or two meals for a few days and follow some of our other detoxing tips as well.
10. Drink green tea
Green tea de-stresses you, boosts the metabolism, and aids the detox process too. Replace your morning cup of coffee with a cup of green tea and will cleanse your body, re-energise you and it fights diseases in the body too.
